Choreography programme

To coincide with the exhibition “Icons of Modern Art. The Shchukin Collection”


 

This programme, designed as a bridge between 20th century dance and contemporary choreography, brings together some of the most inspired modern performers and choreographers in the setting of the Fondation Louis Vuitton auditorium. It reflects the artistic exchanges between France and Russia in the early 20th century and their strong continuing influence on contemporary creation.

The Ballets Russes : An Ongoing Revolution

Twentieth century myths and figures of the Ballets Russes are the inspiration for this event, which invites dancers from diverse backgrounds to perform in one exceptional setting. From The Firebird to The Dying Swan and The Faun, these original interpretations take a leap in an exciting new direction.

Lil Buck
The American dancer makes his debut on the Paris stage with an interpretation of The Dying Swan and presents an original work for the Fondation Louis Vuitton based on Petrushka.

Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui
Marie-Agnès Gillot, principal dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet, and Friedemann Vogel, principal dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet, perform an original duet, an excerpt from The Firebird choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
Faun : Daisy Phillips and James O’Hara deliver a dazzling revival of this duet choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

Nicolas Le Riche (principal dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet)

Original work for the Fondation Louis Vuitton

Eric Genovèse of the Comédie Française, Clairemarie Osta, principal dancer of the Paris Opera Ballet, and a musician.

A liberal interpretation by Nicolas Le Riche, one of France's most acclaimed dancers, of a masterpiece famously associated with the Ballets Russes. Original work for the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

 

Friday 2 and Saturday 3 December 2016, 8.30 pm

Daniel Linehan: “A Rite of Spring”

The American choreographer stages his vision of the Right of Spring for some twenty dancers from the P.A.R.T.S. school. Opting for the version of Igor Stravinsky's masterpiece for two pianos, performed live, Daniel Linehan gives the audience an opportunity to immerse itself in dance as much as in the musical score. A unique avenue stage will make this a truly special event.

 

Thursday 16 and Friday 17 November 2017 

François Chaignaud: Original work for the Fondation Louis Vuitton “Carte Blanche”

Dancer, choreographer, researcher. He has worked on Danses Libres by François Malkovsky, about Isadora Duncan, and The Rite of Spring.

With Cecilia Bengolea, Chaignaud recently worked with Tanztheater Wuppertal and the Lyon Opera Ballet.

In this exclusive freestyle performance for Fondation Louis Vuitton, Chaignaud will present a brief history of dance.
