EXHIBITION OF THE EXCEPTIONAL MOROZOV COLLECTION

FONDATION LOUIS VUITTON IN PARIS, THE STATE HERMITAGE MUSEUM IN SAINT PETERSBURG, THE PUSHKIN STATE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS AND THE STATE TRETYAKOV GALLERY IN MOSCOW ANNOUNCE THE EXHIBITION OF THE EXCEPTIONAL MOROZOV COLLECTION IN THE FALL 2020 IN PARIS

Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow today announced an exhibition in fall 2020 at Fondation Louis Vuitton of the remarkable collection of French and Russian modern art acquired in the early 20th century by prominent Moscow philanthropists and collectors Mikhail and Ivan Morozov.

The Morozov and Shchukin families figured at the centre of the Moscow cultural life in the early 20th century. They invented the notion of “patron of the arts” and contributed directly to the international recognition of modern French painters. The collections they created are among the most beautiful modern art collections in the world, and are today split between Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

In an exhibition that will mirror and dialogue with Icons of Modern Art. The Shchukin Collection, which ran from October 22, 2016 to March 5, 2017, Fondation Louis Vuitton will present a major group of modern masterpieces acquired by the Morozov brothers, including exceptional paintings by Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Bonnard, Denis, Matisse, Derain and Picasso.

This remarkable collection of canvases that are emblematic of the French Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modernist movements will be joined by works by emerging artists from the Russian avant-garde, together forming an extraordinary body of artworks never exhibited before in Paris.
This exhibition marks a new step in the Franco-Russian cultural friendship. It continues the close collaboration between the countries’ cultural institutions initiated in 2015 by Fondation Louis Vuitton with the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow for the major exhibitions Keys to A Passion in 2015 and Icons of Modern Art. The Shchukin Collection in 2016.

Both the Shchukin exhibition which was a great success as well as the forthcoming show of the Morozovs' collection will be presented at the State Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts after being exhibited at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris.
