European Heritage Days

As part of the 35th European Heritage Days, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is offering free entry on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September, and invites everyone, adults and children, to experience Frank Gehry’s glass vessel in their own way.

First, the architectural tour and the short tours, from the pool level to the upper terraces, allow visitors to appreciate the building’s powerful beauty as well as its technological complexity. The tours explore the key themes to provide an understanding the building: its construction, materials and design, the immediate surroundings of the Bois de Boulogne and the Jardin d’Acclimatation, and the wider context of Paris. Like the building itself, which offers many exploratory routes, visitors are invited to discover the architectural models, photos, films, sketches and engravings, and embark on an architectural journey that describes and explains the entire process behind the concept of the Fondation.

The public can also visit an exhibition created especially for the European Heritage Days, offering seven unique viewpoints of the Fondation’s architecture: photos taken by the seven winners of the #MyFLV competition, displayed along gallery 5 (level 1).
To celebrate four years of being open to the public, and to pay tribute to its many visitors who immortalise Frank Gehry’s building in photos which they share on social media, the Fondation Louis Vuitton held a photography competition, #MyFLV, on the theme of its architecture, from 3 May to 5 June 2018.
The competition was open to everyone, amateurs and professionals alike, and invited visitors to post one or more original photos of the Fondation on their personal Instagram account.
At the end of the submission period, a panel of judges representing the Fondation, sponsored by Frank Gehry, met in the presence of Yann Arthus-Bertrand and selected seven photographs. The winning images featured in a digital and poster campaign. The Fondation posted them on its Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts and used them in a poster campaign in the Paris metro and streets over the summer.
To coincide with the European Heritage Days, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is delighted to present to the public the seven winners of the #MyFLV competition:

Especially for families, the Fondation is hosting a free workshop on Sunday 16 September from 2.30 to 7pm in the Auditorium.
Working with shapes traced on the floor that reflect the lines of the building, families are invited to help build a temporary version of the Fondation, a collective construction that will gradually take shape, formed of 12,000 wooden blocks.
This workshop is being hosted in partnership with the community cultural organisation Ce Que Mes Yeux Ont Vu.

Lastly, the European Heritage Days will also give visitors an opportunity to discover Open Space in gallery 8, a programme that celebrates the most contemporary expressions of creativity. The current work in the series is by British artist Matt Copson and is on display until 23 September 2018. For this space, Copson created Blorange (2018), a new and immersive installation composed of three monumental laser projections with accompanying soundtrack, featuring a young person reciting a monologue that is part poem, part manifesto.
