From 3 October 2018 to 14 January 2019
The remarkable lives and work of Egon Schiele and Jean-Michel Basquiat captivated viewers in Europe and the United States throughout the twentieth century. In less than a decade, they both became leading artists at both ends of their century. They shared a similar fate and fortune, defined by a small body of work with an impactful and enduring quality that has rarely been equaled.
Now, in the twenty-first century, their breathtaking, youth-driven work has made both artists “icons” for new generations. Art as a vital necessity is the crucial element that connects these exceptional artworks. The Fondation Louis Vuitton has dedicated two simultaneous exhibitions to these artists, each represented by roughly a hundred works.
