As part of Synesthesia, the challenge centred around the artists of the Collection, Dorothée Gilbert, principal dancer of the Paris Opera Ballet, has created a choreography inspired by the work of Bertrand Lavier “La Bocca sur Zanker”. The dance, expressly made for the Fondation, will be unveiled Thursday.

Programme #FLVfromhome for the week of June 1st:

  • Wednesday June 3rd – Bertrand Lavier
Bertrand Lavier, conversation with Alain Cueff
(interview conducted on January 27th, 2015, 12 min., © Fondation Louis Vuitton - 2011)

After studying horticulture, a subject that has influenced his outlook, at the Ecole Nationale de Versailles, Bertrand Lavier began his artistic career in the early 1970s.
His approach blends the spirit of Duchamp’s readymades with the mass-culture imagery of pop art and the trivial items typical of the New Realism. Lavier transcends traditional categories between painting and sculpture to emphasise hybridisation. His works, which take the form of objects that are painted, layered, mounted on a plinth, enlarged or simply removed from their original context, are organised into chantiers or “building sites”, as he calls his series, which he deliberately leaves open-ended to allow for the possibility of returning to them. Lavier incorporates everyday objects as well as other art into his work. This blending of genres, principles and materials, typical of Lavier’s artistic practice, produces works that destabilise our perception, creating a visual impact through the blindingly obvious.

The conversation of Bertrand Lavier by Alain Cueff is available Wednesday June 3rd at 6 p.m. (Paris CET):  https://youtu.be/4A4kLnZhHd0

Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra
(recorded on the 21st October 2016, 93 min., © Fondation Louis Vuitton – 2016, dir. Christophe Bellemain)
Vladimir Spivakov, an outstanding violinist and conductor, has brightly realized his multi-faceted talent in the music art and in various fields of social life. As violinist, Vladimir Spivakov had passed the brilliant school of Yuri Yankelevich, a famous professor of the Moscow Conservatory. Not less was the impact of his second teacher and idol – David Oistrakh, one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century.

In 1979 Vladimir Spivakov with a group of his friends and artistic associates, mostly winners of international music competitions, as well as soloists and section leaders of the best Moscow symphonic and chamber orchestras, founded the "Moscow Virtuosi" Chamber Orchestra.

Programme:
Antonio Vivaldi - Violin Concerto in E Minor (soloist: V. Spivakov)
Gioachino Rossini - Sonata for Strings No. 3
Luigi Boccherini - Symphony in D Minor
Dimitri Shostakovitch - Chamber Symphony Op. 110bis (To the Victims of Fascism and War)
Dimitri Shostakovitch - Elegy & Polka for Strings

The concert by Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra is available Friday June 5th at 8:30 p.m. (Paris CET):  https://youtu.be/d7GEfcOPVSg
Video available 24 hours after its upload.

  • Sunday June 7th – 5:30 p.m. (Paris CET)
Documentary, Seiji Ozawa, The Living Spirit of Music
(June 2015, 53 min. 47s © Fondation Louis Vuitton / Camera Lucida / Olivier Simonnet - 2016)

Seiji Ozawa, expressing his passion for teaching and conviction that practical chamber music experience, particularly work in quartets, is essential, founded his Academy in 2004. Each year, twenty-four hand-picked young talents, stringently selected from the world’s leading conservatories and competitions, gather in Switzerland at the Seiji Ozawa International Academy Switzerland to work in ensembles and quartets with Nobuko Imai, Pamela Frank and Sadao Harada, three tutors and performers of international renown.
In 2015, the Seiji Ozawa International Academy Switzerland held its annual closure at the Fondation Louis Vuitton with a public string-quartet master class and an exceptional concert of quartets and orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa.
The documentary “Seiji Ozawa, The Living Spirit of Music” looks back on this event.
